This Simple White Miso Dressing is a quick and flavorful way to add an umami boost to your dishes. With just a handful of ingredients like white miso, rice vinegar, and sesame oil, this dressing comes together in just five minutes. It’s perfect for drizzling over salads, using as a marinade, or even serving as a dip for veggies. The mild sweetness of maple syrup or honey (optional) balances the tangy and savory flavors, making this a versatile dressing for everyday meals.

How to Prepare Your Simple White Miso Dressing

Total Time: 5 minutes

Yields: 3/4 cup

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp white miso paste
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar (unseasoned)
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp avocado or olive oil
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp maple syrup or honey (optional)
  • 2-3 tbsp water (to adjust consistency)
  • 1 clove garlic, peeled and minced

Preparation

Step 1: Whisk Ingredients

In a small bowl, whisk together the white miso paste, rice vinegar, sesame oil, lemon juice, and maple syrup (if using) until smooth.

Step 2: Adjust to Taste and Enjoy

Add water 1 tablespoon at a time to adjust the consistency to your liking. For a sweeter dressing, add more maple syrup or honey. If you prefer more acidity, increase the lemon juice or vinegar to your taste. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Ways to Enjoy

  • Salad Dressing: Drizzle over salads or grain bowls for a tangy, umami flavor that complements fresh veggies.
  • Marinade: Use as a marinade for tofu, fish, or chicken to infuse them with rich, savory flavors before grilling or baking.
  • Dipping Sauce: Serve as a dip for raw veggies or sushi rolls for a simple yet flavorful accompaniment.

Culinary Tips

  • Adjusting Consistency: For a thinner dressing, simply add more water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until it reaches your desired consistency. For a creamier, thicker sauce, use less water.
  • Balancing Flavors: Feel free to tweak the balance between sweet, sour, and savory by adjusting the amounts of maple syrup, lemon juice, or vinegar. Taste as you go to get the perfect balance for your palate.
  • Storage Tip: This dressing can thicken slightly when stored in the fridge. Before using, whisk or shake the dressing to bring it back to a pourable consistency.
